Sanders was involved in an incident in high school, that led him to file for bankruptcy in 2023 with more than $11 million in debt.
Most of that money is owed to the former security guard at his school, John Darjean, who is fighting to collect. Sanders was accused of assaulting and severely injuring Darjean, who alleges that he tried to confiscate his phone at school. Shilo Sanders was 15 years old at the time.
The former security guard won an $11.89 million default judgement against Shilo. The former college football defensive back didn’t show up for the trial in Texas in 2022.
Sanders continues to claim it was self-defense.
Sanders' attorneys are trying to keep him from paying big
According to USA TODAY, Sanders' attorneys are making some requests.
"An attorney for former Colorado football standout Shilo Sanders recently filed a series of requests in court that seek to limit the scope of evidence that is allowed at his upcoming bankruptcy trial," they reported.
"His attorney filed the requests under seal with descriptions that relate to Sanders’ disciplinary history as a minor in Texas, when Sanders was involved in an incident at his school that led him to file for bankruptcy in 2023 with more than $11 million in debt."
Sanders was last a member of Tampa Bay's practice squad in 2025.
