The Julian Lewis era of Colorado football appears to be over for now as head coach Deion Sanders tries to save the season and perhaps his job. To that end, he’s turning the reins over to a new quarterback whose name fans are pretty familiar with.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, Colorado will start quarterback Isaac Wilson against Texas Tech this coming week. Wilson relieved Lewis after a rough start against Baylor last week and acquitted himself well, completing 12 of 25 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown in the 23-13 loss.

Colorado is 2-2 on the season and have been outscored 64-20 over their last two games. With a home game against No. 12 Texas Tech being aired nationally on FOX this week, Coach Prime simply couldn’t afford to maintain the status quo.
Where have we heard that name before?
Wilson is the younger brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, the former BYU superstar and current NFL journeyman who went No. 2 overall to the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft. Though unlike his older brother, Isaac Wilson has yet to really establish himself as a reliable starter.
Despite being the 2023 Polynesian High School Football Player of the Year, Wilson has struggled in the transition to college
In two seasons at Utah, Isaac Wilson went 2-5 as a starter and completed 56.4-percent of his passes for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He offered virtually nothing on the ground.
Wilson transferred to Colorado after throwing just one pass in the entirety of 2025.

As you might expect, fans aren’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of Isaac Wilson being the one to save Colorado’s season:
“Deion should just ask to give [Shedeur] extra eligibility at this point,” one user mused.
“Giving up on Julian Lewis this early means Deion in panic mode to save the season,” wrote another.
“Musical chairs has begun,” a third wrote.
Colorado’s next three games are all against ranked teams. If they can’t win even one of those games, they’ll be 2-5 and have their bowl eligibility hopes on life support.
For Coach Prime’s sake, Isaac Wilson had better show off his older brother’s college skills and not his NFL skills.
