Colorado coach Deion Sanders is a bit surprised the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t maximized Travis Hunter’s potential this NFL season.
Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick from the 2025 NFL Draft, had 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown during his rookie season. He also had 15 tackles and three pass break-ups during his injury-shortened campaign.
Although we’re only two games into the 2026 season, Hunter’s role with the Jaguars has dramatically changed. Not only is he a non-factor on offense, he’s become a rotational piece at the cornerback position.
Hunter played four snaps on offense and 29 on defense in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. In Week 2, the Heisman Trophy winner received six snaps on offense and 37 on defense.
When asked about Hunter this week, Sanders admit he’s baffled by the talented cornerback’s workload.
“I don’t ask questions because I’m not there,” Sanders said. “I don’t know what transpires when we’re not looking. I have no idea what’s going on. I know who he was and who he is right now. I know what he’s capable of. I do know that.”

Could changes be on the horizon?
Hunter proved he can be a difference maker at wide receiver during his time at Colorado, hauling in 153 passes for 1,979 yards and 20 touchdowns.
According to Jaguars coach Liam Coen, the offense will utilize Hunter a bit more this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
“Any time you struggle offensively, you look at the totality of it all,” Coen said. “Travis is a big part of that obviously. We’re looking at continuing to find different ways to get him involved. You’re also looking at the other side of the ball. … We’re gonna look at giving him some more this week.”
If Hunter doesn’t make a huge impact in Week 3, Jaguars fans will hit the panic button fairly soon.
