Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes kicked off their 2026 season in style, defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in thrilling fashion.
With 42 seconds left in regulation, Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis hit Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown to give their squad a 14-13 lead. Georgia Tech had a chance to win the game on a 45-yard field goal attempt from Aidan Birr, but Boo Carter managed to get a piece of it and put the season opener on ice for Colorado.
“I never flinched, man,” Sanders said postgame. “I told several people on the sideline, we’re gonna make it very, very interesting, but we’re gonna win this game.”
Sanders also took a jab at Colorado’s critics, pointing out that his offense racked up 183 yards on the ground while holding Georgia Tech to just 51 rushing yards.
“We rushed for a buck 83? My God. They rushed for 51? I thought we were small,” Sanders said. “You talk about another team that’s also a physical team. To go out there and do this, when you’re talking about the run and we’re a small team — don’t know where that came from — but I’m certainly happy with the results.”

What’s next for Colorado?
Colorado will take on Weber State next Saturday before facing off against Northwestern and Baylor in late September.
The October schedule for Colorado is shaping up to be absolutely brutal. Sanders’ squad will take on Texas Tech Utah, Oklahoma State and Kansas State in a five-week stretch.
We’ll see if Colorado builds off its Week 1 win over Georgia Tech.
