Is Travis Hunter a bust?
The former Colorado Buffaloes star and Heisman Trophy winner was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Jaguars traded up to get Hunter at No. 2 overall, making it clear that they felt he was a game-changer on both sides of the football. Hunter played like it at Colorado, after all.
But two games into the second season of his NFL career, Hunter has left a lot to be desired. He played in seven games as a rookie and has played in two games so far this season.
Hunter has looked solid at cornerback, while not doing much at wide receiver. Hunter caught 28 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown as a rookie. He has one catch for 8 yards through two games in 2026.

On Sunday, in a loss to Denver, Hunter played only 37 snaps on defense (60%) and only seven on offense (11.7%).
“My job is to go out there and play, no matter when they put me out there,” Hunter said postgame.
NFL fans are already placing the “bust” label on him.
While that might not be fair, given how early it is, some fans are blaming Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.

NFL fans think that Sanders did Hunter a disservice by selling him as a two-way player, rather than just a lockdown cornerback.
“Say it with me. Travis Hunter is a bust. He’s a good kid. Deion sold him as a 2-way player and making history…. instead of selling him as ‘go be a shutdown corner’ and maybe play a handful of offensive snaps,” Jason Whitlock, formerly of ESPN, said.
The Jaguars definitely have something to figure out with Hunter, given his performance this early in his NFL career.
