Dallas' George Pickens had the best NFL season of his career in 2025. The star wide receiver registered 1,429 receiving yards, including nine touchdowns in 17 games. George, along with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, formed one of the most potent offensive trios in the NFL, which helped the Cowboys to score 471 points during the season.
However, this mammoth effort from the trio wasn't enough for the Cowboys to make the NFL playoffs, with the team's defensive struggles being a major factor. This disappointing end to the season spurred Jerry Jones into action.

The Cowboys owner made several changes. The biggest were parting ways with Matt Eberflus and hiring Christian Parker as the new defensive coordinator. Other notable moves included trading for Rashan Gray from Green Bay Packers, and signing free agents Jalen Thompson and P.J. Locke.
While Jerry Jones made a number of defensive decisions, there was one big offensive decision still pending during the offseason: George Pickens' contract situation. However, the team decided not to given an extension and instead placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on him, which Pickens eventually signed in April.
This decision became final when the July 15 deadline passed without the two parties agreeing to a long-term contract. George Pickens, despite the offseason drama, appears to be completely comfortable within the organization.
Addressing the locker room atmosphere, Pickens said, “I’d probably just say the type of coaches and the people around. When it’s a different vibe and environment then that’s mostly what you’re seeing out of me now. Definitely more light-hearted people."
“They kind of just ask questions first, see your answer, instead of just going with their own narrative. Definitely being around the guys, too. That’s definitely my No. 1 thing always just because when you can wake up in the morning and see them and we’re going through the same thing. Just being around the whole facility," he added.
