LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin was one of the most sought-after names for several prestigious coaching positions.

Kiffin served as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels for the past six seasons, compiling a 55-19 record. During his tenure, he led the team to win double-digit games in four out of the last five seasons. Notably, he guided Ole Miss to its first College Football Playoff appearance in program history in 2025, although he was unable to coach the team in the playoff due to taking a position at LSU.

There is considerable optimism that Kiffin can turn things around in Baton Rouge and lead the Tigers back to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. However, on the "See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack" podcast, the former Georgia Bulldogs All-American expressed that he is not as confident about LSU's prospects this season.

"I'm not convinced of what LSU is going to be," Pollack said. "I know they're going to be better. I don't know if they're going to be great."

Kiffin arrives in Baton Rouge with significant momentum after six successful seasons at Ole Miss. That résumé naturally fuels the belief that he can quickly elevate LSU back into national contention.

From a broader standpoint, however, transitions at major programs rarely come without turbulence. Even proven offensive minds must adjust to new rosters, staff dynamics and heightened expectations in the SEC. Pollack’s skepticism doesn’t dismiss LSU’s potential, it simply reflects the uncertainty that accompanies any coaching change.

LSU’s trajectory will depend on how quickly Kiffin establishes continuity and identity within the program. Improvement seems likely given his track record, but turning “better” into “great" and great into playoff-bound requires consistency against elite competition. Until the Tigers prove it on the field, cautious optimism may be the most reasonable stance.
