The Los Angeles Dodgers' losing streak reached seven games Friday night after a walk-off defeat, prompting manager Dave Roberts to deliver a blunt assessment of his team's recent struggles.
Speaking after the loss, Roberts said the Dodgers continue putting themselves in position to win but have failed to execute when it matters most. Dodgers beat writer Adrian Medina shared the manager's postgame comments on X.
Despite the skid, Los Angeles remains atop the National League West with a 69-47 record.
Roberts pointed to mistakes on both offense and defense as the primary reason the Dodgers could not finish the game.
"A loss is a loss, but to get walked off never feels good," Roberts said. "We didn't play a clean game on either side of the baseball, but we did enough to put ourselves in a position to win a game, and unfortunately we couldn't finish it."
The latest defeat extended the club's longest losing streak of the season and continued a difficult stretch in which the Dodgers have struggled to consistently execute in late-game situations. While the offense showed signs of improvement Friday, the bullpen could not protect the lead, allowing another opportunity to slip away.

The recent slide has also come while Los Angeles continues to navigate injuries throughout its pitching staff. With key arms unavailable, the Dodgers have relied heavily on bullpen depth during a stretch that has exposed inconsistencies on the mound.
Even with seven straight losses, the Dodgers still hold first place in the NL West, though their lead has narrowed. The Arizona Diamondbacks have cut the gap to 7.5 games, while the San Diego Padres sit nine games back. Roberts' message after Friday's defeat underscored the challenge ahead as Los Angeles looks to clean up its play and halt its longest skid of the season before the division race tightens further.
