Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on rookie reliever Edgardo Henriquez after the right-hander landed on the 15-day injured list with a back injury.
Henriquez has dealt with increasing discomfort in his back and side in recent days. Roberts said the team will have him undergo a scan to determine the extent of the issue.
Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reported the update on X.
The Dodgers placed Henriquez on the injured list Monday after he emerged as an important part of their bullpen. Roberts remains hopeful the rookie can recover in time to help Los Angeles during the postseason.
Henriquez has been one of the Dodgers’ more effective relief options this season. He owns a 4-1 record with a 2.85 ERA and 1.03 WHIP while striking out 71 batters over 60 innings.
His fastball has also made him an intriguing weapon for the Dodgers. The right-hander has reached at least 103 mph multiple times this season, giving Roberts another power arm to use in important situations.
The timing of the injury is not ideal for Los Angeles. The Dodgers have already been managing several health concerns, including Shohei Ohtani’s knee and biceps issues and Freddie Freeman’s right knee soreness.

Edwin Díaz is also working his way back from an elbow operation, but his recent Triple-A outings have not put him in a position to immediately return to the Dodgers.
Los Angeles has already secured a postseason berth and is now focused on getting its pitching staff ready for October. Henriquez is eligible to return for the postseason if his recovery goes well.
For now, the Dodgers will wait for the results of his scan before determining the next step. His availability could become an important factor as Los Angeles builds its playoff bullpen.
