Infielder Tommy Edman was slated to start at third base for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, but he was scratched from the lineup against the San Diego Padres after being hit on the right foot by Padres pitcher Mason Miller.
According to Dodgers Nation, Edman needed treatment on his foot, which is why manager Dave Roberts pulled him from the lineup for Sunday's series finale. Roberts does not consider the injury to be serious.
It's news that Dodgers fans would like to hear. Edman had recently been activated from the 60-day injured list on June 17 after missing the team's first 74 games while recovering from offseason surgery on his right ankle.
Since returning this season, Edman has rotated through second base, third base and in the outfield, giving Roberts flexibility across the field.
The Dodgers' utility man has offered great numbers this season besides the range with his glove. Through 15 games, Edman carries a .354 batting average with one home run and nine RBIs for a .967 OPS.
Taking over for the 31-year-old Edman is Miguel Rojas at third base, with Alex Freeland at second base. Shohei Ohtani serves as the designated hitter, with Mookie Betts at shortstop and Teoscar Hernandez in left field.

The Dodgers have not signaled that Edman will need to miss extended time. His next opportunity to return to the lineup could come as soon as the team's next series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday, depending on how the foot responds to treatment.
