Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy isn’t happy with lightning delays during college football and NFL games.
College football and NFL games were hit hard by storms this week. The Bucs vs. Browns game was delayed by several hours on Sunday. Multiple college football games were hit by weather delays, too, including the Clemson vs. North Carolina game.
Portnoy, who serves as an analyst for FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff,” isn’t happy when weather impacts football games.
The Barstool Sports founder is proposing a solution.

Portnoy believes that football games should get rid of lightning delays.
“I’m sick and tired of lightning delays. We need to have fans sign a waiver and if you get struck it’s just not your day (Also credit to me for being a team player and not mentioning the fact I was forced to be on scaffolding a million miles high instead of being inside),” he said last year.
He added this weekend: “Nobody has ever been more right about lightning delays in football than me. I remember when men were men.”
The main issue with lightning delays
Obviously, football games go into weather delays for the safety of the players, coaches and fans.
However, the people often most at risk are the camera operators. They’re operating serious equipment, typically from higher altitudes within the stadium, or outside of the stadium. Games can’t go on when there’s a chance of a lightning strike.
College football and NFL games obviously won’t be getting rid of lightning delays anytime soon.
