Alyssa Thomas and Caitlin Clark's on-court incident remains one of the most talked-about topics in the sports world. Many have chimed in and given their takes, especially after the Phoenix Mercury posted a now-deleted graphic on X.
Dave Portnoy didn't hold back with his reaction to it.
The Barstool Sports founder blasted the WNBA team, calling its members "cowards." The team published a cartoon-style sketch after Wednesday's controversial game.
Thomas hit Clark on the neck with her fist, which ultimately led to a Flagrant 2 foul and a one-game suspension for the Mercury star.
In the graphic in question, Phoenix added "DE-WANNA PIECE OF THIS?!?" on the photo, referencing former Fever player and current Mercury guard-forward DeWanna Bonner, who is engaged to Thomas.

Portnoy was incensed by the post and even more agitated when the Mercury decided to delete it.
"Breaking: The cowards at @PhoenixMercury deleted the post making fun of CC getting throat punched by Alyssa Thomas. If you’re gonna ruin the golden goose at least stand by it. COWARDS DELETED," Portnoy wrote.
For what it's worth, some fans have argued that the graphic had nothing to do with Clark, given that it was a cartoonized version of Bonner. This is despite Bonner and Clark being involved in a heated moment during their previous matchup on Monday. Portnoy, however, is having none of it.
Fans have scrutinized the league over how it has treated Clark. They cited her contributions to growing the WNBA's popularity and bringing more fans to arenas. Others mentioned that its ratings will go down the drain if it continues to mistreat the two-time All-Star.
Clark entered the league as the No. 1 pick in 2024. She was surrounded by hype following a successful collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 24-year-old has showcased her elite handles and three-point shooting, drawing fans to watch her every move on and off the court.
