Barstool sports founder and Michigan superfan Dave Portnoy didn’t have as much to smile about with his team as the last three weeks after the team lost to Iowa on the final play of today’s game. But he’s taking the loss in stride and appears to be more confident after that stunning loss.
In a video posted to X shortly after the loss, Portnoy declared that the Wolverines deserved to lose against Iowa today after the way they allowed them to stay in the game with penalties. He called it “the worst Michigan loss I’ve ever (expletive) seen” and yet still feels that the team is good enough to beat anyone.
“We’re still going to the playoffs because they’re really (expletive) good… I’ve never been more confident in Michigan though. Never,” he added.
“Michigan had that loss coming. You cant dominate more and lose. Weirdly I’m more confident in Michigan than ever,” he wrote in the caption to his video.
“Are you sure?”
As with most outcomes that don’t go Portnoy’s way, the comments were filled with people trolling him over the loss:
“This isn’t your most confident face Dave. Are you sure you’re more confident?” one user asked with a laughing emoji.
“This Michigan team stinks. They Lost like the dogs they are and won’t be in the top 25 for the rest of the year,” another wrote.
“Hahahaha. That loss was payback for your cheating a few weeks ago. Karma’s a (expletive),” a third wrote.
“Cope harder lol maybe you shouldn’t have spoken so earlyhahaha.”
“Western Michigan loss was worse but a gift. Michigan under KW will never and I mean NEVER win a championship. He’s a paper tiger.”

The good news for Portnoy and the Michigan Wolverines is that their defense has been an elite unit all season. They’ve yet to allow more than 20 points in a game.
That said, the offense is having serious issues. They’ve only scored above 20 points once this season (last week over UTEP).
With big games coming up against teams like Penn State and Indiana just in the next four weeks, Michigan really needs to fix what ails them on offense if they want to justify Portnoy’s confidence in them.
