Darian Mensah made Miami history Saturday night, yet the Hurricanes quarterback focused on how much work remains after another nearly flawless performance.
Mensah became the first Miami player in the last 30 seasons to record three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in a first half, according to ESPN Insights.
The former Duke standout played a part in all four touchdowns in the second quarter of No. 6 Miami’s 52-3 victory over Central Michigan, keeping the Hurricanes’ season impeccable and moving to a 4-0 record.
Mensah completed 23 of 27 passes for 338 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 21 yards and a score on four carries.
“We’ve come a long way, and we’ve shown some good things,” Mensah said after the game. “But like Cristobal always says, we’ve got a long way to go.”
Mensah’s third touchdown pass also gave him 14 through Miami’s first four games, tying Cam Ward’s 2024 pace. Ward ultimately set Hurricanes single-season records with 39 touchdown passes, 4,313 passing yards, 4,517 total yards and 43 touchdowns responsible for.
Mensah has completed 88.7% of his passes for 1,211 yards, 14 touchdowns and no interceptions this season. He has thrown just 12 incompletions through four games, making him the first FBS passer in the last 30 years to have more TD passes than incompletions through his first four games, per CBS’s Chris Hummer.
