The Dallas Cowboys entered Sunday night needing their offense to steady a shaky season. Instead, Dallas left Lambeau Field with a 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers, a 2-4 record and a passing game that never found a consistent answer for pressure.
Locked On Cowboys hosts Marcus Mosher and Landon McCool centered their postgame discussion on that problem. Both pointed to the Cowboys’ inability to handle blitz looks, take the available throws and sustain drives before the game forced Prescott into a pass-heavy script.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott completed 63% of his passes for 258 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a 65.2 passer rating. Dallas was shut out in the first half for the first time since November 7, 2021.
McCool called it one of Prescott’s poorest performances and argued that Dallas repeatedly failed to execute its hot reads against pressure. He said the breakdowns extended beyond the quarterback, citing short gains after checkdowns, missed throws and receivers who did not make enough plays after the catch.
Mosher’s larger concern was that the issue has become familiar. He noted that the Cowboys have struggled in consecutive games against aggressive pressure packages, and said opponents will keep forcing Dallas to prove it can make quick, efficient completions before sending extra rushers.
Green Bay defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon mixed two-high structures with pressure, according to McCool, and Dallas did not stay patient enough to work underneath. The Cowboys managed only 48 rushing yards at 3.2 yards per carry, which further limited their ability to stay balanced once the Packers built a 17-0 halftime lead.
The offense did show some life after halftime, when Prescott connected with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb on a fourth-and-2 conversion and Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams capped a touchdown drive with a 1-yard score. But the Packers answered with a field goal, and the Cowboys did not reach the end zone again until Ryan Flournoy’s 6-yard touchdown catch with 52 seconds remaining.
Dallas next travels to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Oct. 26. The Cowboys do not need a wholesale offensive reset in one week, but they do need clearer pressure answers against Philadelphia defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
