The Dallas Cowboys have a straightforward path to coming out of Lambeau Field with a win in Week 6: Run the ball well enough to keep Dak Prescott out of obvious passing situations.
The Cowboys need running back Javonte Williams to create manageable downs, give Prescott more red zone options and keep the offense from becoming one-dimensional, said Locked On Cowboys host Marcus Mosher.
Mosher argued that a successful run game has enabled the offense to dominate. Having an efficient ground game against the Packers would put Prescott in the manageable third-down situations that were missing during the 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 8.
That formula matters because Prescott has the weapons to punish Green Bay if the Packers have to account for the run. Cowboys wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are high-level options, but the offense becomes easier to contain if Prescott repeatedly faces obvious passing situations and Green Bay can concentrate on limiting explosive plays.
The Packers have their own ability to create those explosives. Locked On Packers host Peter Bukowski pointed to Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love’s success on deep throws and said explosive plays could dictate the pace of the matchup. If Dallas cannot sustain possessions with its rushing attack, Love and the Packers could get the high-possession game Bukowski believes favors their offense.
Mosher also tied the running game to the Cowboys’ red zone ceiling. A productive ground attack would make play-action more credible near the goal line and prevent defenses from selling out against Prescott, Lamb and Pickens. Dallas has enough offensive talent to keep pace in a shootout, but it needs more than a passing-game rescue plan after its uneven performance in Tampa.
The Cowboys enter Week 6 with extra recovery time after playing Thursday night, while Green Bay comes off its Oct. 11 win over the Chicago Bears. Dallas will try to turn that rest advantage into a more physical performance Sunday night, beginning with an offense that can stay ahead of the chains.
