If the Dallas Cowboys are going to make a run in the lowly NFC East this season, they’re going to need an MVP-level performance from starting quarterback Dak Prescott moving forward.
The Cowboys dropped to 2-3 on the year on Thursday night, with a devastating home loss to the previously-winless Buccaneers. Prescott had a tough game, throwing two interceptions, though on both of them, he hit his receiver in the hands. Still, Prescott was a bit flummoxed by the Tampa Bay pass rush all night.
Cowboys fans who watched Troy Aikman lead the team in the 1990s are suggesting that Prescott needs to start behaving like he did on the sideline.
An old clip of Aikman on the sideline revealed how he would tear into his teammates and coaches when they weren’t playing or coaching up to his standard.
“That’s a (expletive) embarrassment out there,” Aikman can be heard saying to his linemen. “That’s a (expletive) embarrassment. We can’t block anybody.”
Later in the clip, he can be heard talking to one of his coaches: “I’m (expletive) tired of being the guy that has to run down everyone’s (expletive) throat all the time. Why don’t we have a coach that does something about it? Instead, we want to go over and pat everyone on the (expletive).”

Aikman famously led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl wins during his Hall of Fame career in Dallas.
“If the Cowboys are gonna go anywhere this year, they need @dak to start moving like this,” one fan wrote on X.
Cowboys fans are unsure if Dak can do it, though
Dallas Cowboys fans appear to be unsure if Dak can act like Aikman did on the sideline, though.
“Dak is too brand aware to do this. He always tries to say the right thing… do the right thing… which is fine. But yeah, you’re never getting this out of 4. 8 will always be special,” one fan wrote.
“Twitter and social media killed those days. He did that today it would be the A block all week on every sports show,” one fan added.
“Aikman talked about this in the documentary you got this clip from and described this as evidence the dynasty was over. You need the coach to be that guy, not the qb,” one fan added.
The Cowboys will look to get back on the right track on Sunday night, taking on the Packers.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. E.T. on NBC.
