Dak Prescott is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle for the Dallas Cowboys as Jerry Jones and Brian Schottenheimer work together to end the franchise’s 30-year Super Bowl drought. The Cowboys have struggled with their defensive issues, and the 2025 NFL season was another prime example of that.
The Cowboys conceded 511 points, the most in the NFL. The defensive struggles contributed to the team missing the playoffs entirely for a second consecutive season. On the other hand, the offense has papered over those defensive cracks. Prescott, along with the high-flying duo of George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, took the NFL by storm in the 2025 NFL season.

The Cowboys registered 471 points, the seventh-highest total in the NFL, as Prescott threw for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns with a 67.3% completion rate. His impressive performances throughout the season earned him a well-deserved fourth career Pro Bowl selection. Despite Prescott’s heroics, the Cowboys ending the season with a 7-9-1 record.
Another disappointing end to a season has led to the Cowboys making a number of changes. One of them is the introduction of the leadership council. The council includes Prescott, Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Jalen Thompson, Rashan Gary, Tyler Booker, Jake Ferguson , Tyler Smith, Javonte Williams, CeeDee Lamb and Bryan Anger.
This decision was made to strengthen the team’s culture and distribute leadership responsibilities beyond the starting QB, and it’s starting to pay dividends as Prescott shares how others have stepped forward to take responsibility. Prescott said, “That was purposeful. I couldn’t be the, whatever you want to call it, the chief leader in there because I’m going to speak up. I’m going to talk.”
“I know what I know, and I’m not going to be hesitant to say it, but we need other guys to take that lead. And Kenny Clark, Rashan Gary and Tyler Smith have been those guys to step up and they’re doing a hell of a job,” he added.
The Cowboys have a talented offense and a revamped defense. But, if this team wants to win the Super Bowl, the leadership council will have to make sure that the group is accountable and disciplined throughout the season.
