Dak Prescott left Lambeau Field as a rookie thinking Green Bay was no big deal. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has since learned otherwise, and he said so Thursday at The Star in Frisco as the team prepared for a Week 6 trip to Green Bay.
“I joked on the production call that after I won that game, I’m like, ‘What’s so hard about playing up here?’ But I’ve been back since and didn’t win, so I understand,” Prescott said at his media availability Thursday.
One win in Green Bay, then a lesson

The win he joked about came Oct. 16, 2016, when Dallas beat the Packers 30-16 in Prescott’s sixth career start. His next visit, on Nov. 13, 2022, ended in a 31-28 overtime loss. Counting the playoffs, Prescott is 1-5-1 against Green Bay, and the tie was last season’s 40-40 finish at AT&T Stadium. That 2016 game is still his only win over the Packers.
Lambeau, home of the 1967 Ice Bowl, has been hard on the whole franchise. The Packers are 8-2 against Dallas at Lambeau Field in the regular season. Prescott still sounded eager. “Excited just about getting up there. It’s one of the places where football is at its purest form,” he said.
The bigger scar came at home. Green Bay beat Dallas 48-32 in the wild-card round in January 2024, and the Cowboys have gone 16-22-1 without a playoff trip since. Asked whether he buys the idea that the organization never recovered from that loss, Prescott answered, “No, I don’t.” He has been open about his frustration this season, though, and the 2-3 Cowboys are coming off a 24-16 home loss to Tampa Bay in which the Buccaneers pressured him 13 times. He still has 1,381 passing yards, nine touchdown passes and three interceptions through five games.
Prescott expects new Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to bring the same heat Sunday night on NBC. “So I’d be naive to think that he’s not going to. Let’s do it,” he said. Leaning on the run game in Green Bay could slow that rush, and the Cowboys fans making the trip north will learn quickly whether Prescott’s second Lambeau win is within reach.
