The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox delivered one of the more eventful Crosstown Series matchups in recent years over the weekend. This weekend marked the first full-season Crosstown Series matchup since 2008 in which both the Cubs and White Sox entered the series with winning records. With the Cubs now standing at 29-18, and the White Sox at 24-22, the rivalry carried a level of competition and energy that had been absent throughout recent years.
Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong found himself in the center of some of this attention during Sunday’s series finale at Rate Field. The 24-year-old All-Star was involved in a viral verbal altercation with a fan after missing a tough catch at the fence. Crow-Armstrong was recorded responding to a fan’s comment with crude language, after clearly being frustrated with himself.

Despite the emotional atmosphere surrounding the weekend matchup, Crow-Armstrong still spoke positively about both the White Sox and the current state of baseball in Chicago following the series. Recording two hits and a home run in the series, the Cubs' young star praised the White Sox for their successful start to the season and acknowledged the excitement surrounding both Chicago teams playing meaningful baseball at the same time.
“It’s fun playing against those guys. (White Sox) They were all up in our stuff all weekend. They are a good ball club and they are playing good baseball. It’s good for the city that they have two good teams going, having a lot of success this year,” Crow-Armstrong said, according to WSCR-AM’s Bruce Levine.
The White Sox ultimately secured the series victory, adding to what has been a surprisingly strong start for the club that lost a whopping 141 games only two seasons ago. The Cubs continue positioning themselves as contenders near the top of the National League standings, and if both teams continue their strong starts, the rivalry could carry more importance in the 2026 MLB season than many would have expected.
The two teams will next face each other in a three-game series at Wrigley Field from August 17-19.
