Draymond Green and Charles Barkley went at it in uncomfortable fashion on Wednesday evening, during ESPN's "Inside the NBA" broadcast.
Barkley and Green sparred a bit on Wednesday evening. Barkley made it clear to Green that he believes that the Golden State Warriors' dynasty is over. Most would probably agree with that. The Warriors are an injured, aging team. Green, meanwhile, fired back by insulting the end of Barkley's career.
“I think the goal is to not look like you in the Houston Rockets uniform,” Green told Barkley during the segment. “That is ultimately the goal.”
Barkley, who did not win a championship, finished his career in Houston. In four seasons with the Rockets, he averaged:
- 16.5 points
- 12.2 rebounds
- 3.9 assists
- 4.0 box plus/minus
Solid numbers, to be sure. They were down from his prime numbers - Barkley was an MVP player, after all - but nothing to be ashamed about.
Green, meanwhile, over the last four seasons, has averaged:
- 8.6 points
- 6.5 rebounds
- 6.0 assists
- 0.5 box plus/minus
Barkley, even in his worst years, was putting up better stats than Green in much of his prime
Green is a four-time NBA champion. No one can take that away from him. But he won those championships playing alongside Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and others.
Green was an important piece, of course. But Barkley was the better NBA player.
“Charles’ bad year, would be Draymond’s great year, and that’s all Charles had to say. I didn’t win, hey I tried, but my numbers are better than any of your best numbers. That’s how great I was," Dan Patrick said on Thursday.
Green knows how to talk trash - that's for sure - but Barkley has the upper hand in the argument department.
