Cristiano Ronaldo has shared some bad news with the world before his Portugal vs. Denmark match, stating that he has made a decision to leave.
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he has dropped out of Portugal’s national team camp one day before the UEFA Nations League session with Denmark, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his next steps with the national team.
The 41-year-old announced his departure from the national team camp on Wednesday following a rough few days with Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo was left on the bench for the entire 2-1 victory over Norway, the first time in 18 years that he has not appeared after being named on the bench for Portugal.
“Following the national team coach’s press conference and following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I’ve decided to leave the national team camp,” Ronaldo said on Instagram.
Is Cristiano Ronaldo Retiring From Portugal National Team?
Ronaldo didn’t give any reasons for his departure, but said he would discuss it later.
Ronaldo said, “In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that motivated my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself.”

The wording is crucial because Ronaldo hasn’t officially retired from international soccer. He has, however, confirmed that he will not be available for the Denmark match unless the situation changes, as he will be leaving the current Portugal camp.
His remarks also indicate that he thinks there’s more to the story than what has happened since the Norway game.
Ronaldo Sends Message to Portugal Teammates
Ronaldo, however, wrapped up his statement with a wish for good luck to his teammates.
“Now it is time to wish Portugal and all my teammates, without exception, good luck,” the former Real Madrid legend wrote.
The timing is unfortunate for Portugal, who are preparing for Denmark without their captain and leading scorer. It also puts renewed focus on Ronaldo’s relationship with Jesus, who previously coached him at Al-Nassr. Ronaldo’s absence from training further fueled speculation of a major dispute, as Jesus denied there was a major dispute.
Ronaldo’s announcement is just a confirmation of his absence from the current camp, and not a final retirement from Portugal. His pledge to explain the “full reasons” of the decision leaves the next chapter of this unfolding situation enclosed.
