Cris Collinsworth was fed up on Sunday night.
The NBC announcer was not happy with the way the game finished between the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions on Sunday evening. The Panthers held off the Lions, 32-26, on Sunday night.
The Lions had a chance to go for the win late, though ultimately, they failed in miserable fashion. Detroit had a quick four-and-out with the game on the line. NBC’s top NFL announcer could not believe it.
“I would have bet any amount of money that you wanted to bet that they were gonna get at least three or four first downs as easy as they could make ’em… That was a disaster. That possession by the Detroit Lions was a disaster,” Collinsworth said on Sunday evening, at the end of the game.
Collinsworth could not believe how poorly the Lions managed their final four plays of the game on Sunday.
“Wow. I mean, wow,” Collinsworth said to play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico in the NBC booth. “Mike, I think back to Tom Brady in his first Super Bowl. They’re going to give you the first 40 yards. You take it. You know? And now, you take a sack. Wow.”
NFL fans are on Collinsworth’s side, too
“He’s right tho, Evero gives too much cushion in these situations and it cost us against the Rams in the playoffs and several times last year. Every Panthers fan was cringing when they got the ball with over 2 minutes left,” one fan wrote.
“He’s not wrong. How don’t you go with St brown in a critical situation,” one fan added.
“Goff really just wanted to go home for the day. Threw it short of the 1st down marker on 4th down,” one fan added.
“It’s simple football, the most basic part of football and the Lions, be it Goff or the OC, doesn’t get it…you need 13 yards for a 1st, you do not throw a 10 yard route hoping he breaks a tackle…don’t leave that to chance…Lions have done this for years and it makes me crazy,” one fan added.
“He was 100% right this time. Completely incompetent to throw the ball short on fourth down getting the ball tipped all night indicates a problem that’s been going on for a while slow release. The other QB is a foot shorter and didn’t have this problem,” one fan added.
The Panthers improved to 2-2 on the season, taking on the Eagles in Week 5.
