The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2026 NFL season with a lot of hope, coming off a strong finish to the 2025 season, and adding some key pieces to the defensive side of the football this offseason.
But, through three games, the Cowboys have disappointed.
Dallas is now 1-2 on the season, following a heartbreaking loss to Baltimore on Sunday. The Cowboys allowed a record-setting, 0:07 game-winning drive as time expired in Brazil. The Ravens won on a game-ending field goal.
Cowboys star Dak Prescott is taking ownership of the loss.
“Frustrated,” Prescott said postgame, via the team’s website. “Frustrated as (expletive). Excuse me. Embarrassed. We don’t call ourselves the best offense, GOTI [Greatest Offense There Is], and get down to the one-yard line and don’t put it in. Yeah, it just sucks. Not a lot of words or full explanation of it. Defense shouldn’t even have been in that position. Those guys were over there saying ‘it’s on us,’ absolutely not. We’ve got to put the game away, period.”
Following the loss, the Cowboys’ Super Bowl chances dropped to 3.6 percent, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. Surprisingly, that’s good for 9th in the league right now. The computer models are still high on Jerry Jones’ team.

Cowboys fans are pointing the blame in one direction: the defense.
You cannot consistently give up 30-plus points and expect to be a championship-contending team in the National Football League.
Dallas’ defense simply must be a lot better.
NFL fans blaming Cowboys’ defense
“Cowboys fans are embarrassing. The offense had some issues against a solid Baltimore defense, but glorifying the defense after giving up 34 and a 50 yard play with 7 seconds left is ridiculous,” one fan wrote.
“Dak took the blame for today’s loss, bemoaning his offense’s red zone difficulties. And those problems contributed to the defeat. But a defense allowing its opponent to score 34 points and failing to force a turnover? That unit is still the biggest problem,” Mike Doocy added.
NFL fans agree.
“Jerry keeps hiring coaches that he feels have great football minds, but shrink in key moments. That’s what his teams have done on the field since 2006. THAT’S the biggest problem. On both sides of the ball, they screw up in key moments,” one fan wrote.
“People that are still blaming Dak for the Cowboys problems should no longer be allowed to watch anymore football games. They just don’t comprehend the game,” one fan added.
Who is really to blame in your mind?
