The Dallas Cowboys are adding two defensive backs before their matchup with the Green Bay Packers, while linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has been ruled out.
Dallas elevated cornerback Derion Kendrick and safety Juanyeh Thomas from the practice squad for Sunday night’s game, The Athletic’s Jon Machota reported Saturday. Overshown, who was listed as questionable on Friday, did not travel with the team to Green Bay.
The Cowboys confirmed the moves on their official website. Overshown is dealing with a hamstring injury suffered in the season opener against the New York Giants, keeping him sidelined since Week 1.
The elevations give Dallas additional options in a secondary also dealing with injuries. Cornerback Cobie Durant has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Joey Porter Jr. remains questionable after being limited in Friday’s practice because of an ankle issue.
Thomas has appeared in two games this season and recorded one tackle, according to the Cowboys’ update. Sunday will mark his third elevation from the practice squad. Kendrick, meanwhile, has yet to play for Dallas this season and offers another option at nickel cornerback.

Overshown’s absence is another setback for a Dallas defense preparing for Green Bay’s offense. The linebacker recorded seven tackles in the season opener before leaving with the hamstring injury. His continued absence leaves the Cowboys without a player they had hoped to get back into the lineup after a limited practice late in the week.
At 2-3, Dallas needs a stronger defensive showing to improve its position in the NFC East. The Cowboys face a Packers team led by quarterback Jordan Love, making depth and communication important as Dallas adjusts its personnel. Elevating Kendrick and Thomas provides extra bodies, but the team must still manage its linebacker and cornerback absences carefully in this prime-time matchup.
