An injury update on Texas Rangers' star shortstop Corey Seager was announced Sunday morning.
Seager has been on the 10-day injured list for the Rangers since July 1 with lower back inflammation. This injured list stint is the third of the season for Seager, his second with lower back inflammation.
The 32-year-old has struggled heavily in his limited time on the field this season.
In 51 games, Seager is slashing .182/.292/.374, a .666 OPS, with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 59 strikeouts.
It was revealed that Seager will begin ramping up baseball activities. He will start hitting in the batting cage on Sunday with soft toss pitches. He will also start taking ground balls at shortstop.
While the update on Seager is small, it is encouraging to see the shortstop getting back to the game and likely return sometime this summer.
The Rangers need their star shortstop while they are fighting to keep first place in a crowded American League West Division.
They sit at 50-48 with a slim 1 1/2 game lead over the Seattle Mariners.
