Corey Seager dealt with a bone spur in his right elbow for the final few months of the 2026 season, Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young revealed after the team’s season ended.
Young said the Rangers are still determining whether Seager will need minor offseason surgery to address the issue. Regardless of that decision, the team expects the veteran shortstop to be fully recovered by spring training.
The injury adds another layer to a season in which Seager dealt with multiple health issues while remaining in the lineup for most of the final stretch.
Seager played in 51 of Texas’ final 53 games after returning from a late-season injured list stint. He hit .269 with 10 home runs during that stretch, but his overall production finished below his career standards.
The shortstop ended the season with a .227/.312/.424 slash line, 20 home runs and 51 RBI across 102 games. The .227 batting average was a career low.
Seager also missed time earlier in the season because of lower back inflammation and a concussion. The newly revealed elbow issue provides additional context for a season in which he spent time managing multiple physical setbacks.

The Rangers finished the season 80-82 and missed the postseason after entering the final day tied with the Houston Astros in the AL West. Houston finished 81-81 and won the division.
Texas will now turn toward the offseason with Seager’s elbow among the team’s health considerations. If the Rangers decide surgery is necessary, Young expects the procedure to be minor and Seager to be ready for spring training.
