Corey Graves had a demanding weekend in Mexico, and it appeared to catch up with him by the time WWE RAW came around. The longtime commentator apologized to fans after his voice was noticeably affected during Monday night’s broadcast from Mexico City.
Graves addressed the issue on X after RAW, explaining that he had learned how altitude can affect his vocal cords. Despite not sounding like himself, the WWE commentator pushed through the weekend and wrote he will be back behind the desk for SmackDown on Friday.
“This weekend I learned that altitude can affect your vocal cords. I sincerely apologize for not sounding like myself for such a momentous occasion. But, if I wasn’t dead, I wasn’t missing a moment. I hope you guys enjoyed the shows as much as I did. See you Friday 🇲🇽.”
The commentator had already shown signs of losing his voice during AAA TripleMania 34, where he worked alongside John “Bradshaw” Layfield for both nights. His voice repeatedly broke during the first night, particularly during the 15-man Copa Bardahl, but Graves continued through the broadcast.
He then joined Joe Tessitore at the commentary desk for Monday Night RAW, completing another long night despite clearly not being at full strength.
Corey Graves Worked Through a Packed WWE and AAA Weekend
Graves’ busy stretch began with SmackDown on September 11 at Arena CDMX before he moved into AAA duties for TripleMania 34. The second night of the event took place on September 13 in Mexico City, keeping Graves on the call before he returned to WWE for Monday’s RAW.
The September 14 episode was another notable night for WWE in Mexico. Roman Reigns defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta in the main event, while Lola Vice made her main-roster debut and earned a spot in the women’s Money in the Bank match.
Stephanie Vaquer also appeared as the new Women’s World Champion after defeating Liv Morgan at a WWE live event in Santiago, Chile, while Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan faced El Grande Americano and Vaquer in a mixed tag match.
Graves has become an important part of WWE’s expanded relationship with AAA since WWE acquired the promotion. He has regularly handled English-language commentary for AAA events while continuing his work on WWE programming.
Considering the number of shows he worked across the weekend, Graves’ voice issue was hardly surprising. He still made it through the Monday Night Show and will be back behind the desk for Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
