Corbin Burnes provided an encouraging update on his right shoulder after his 2026 season ended early.
The Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher said his shoulder was simply tired from the amount of throwing required during his rehabilitation. Burnes said there is no new injury and that he expects to be fine after getting some rest.
The update comes after Arizona placed Burnes on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation late in September.
Burnes returned to the Diamondbacks in September after working his way back from elbow surgery. He made three starts after being reinstated, throwing 10 1/3 innings during the abbreviated return.
His final appearance came Sept. 20 against the New York Yankees. Burnes allowed three home runs in that outing before experiencing continued issues during his subsequent throwing work.
Burnes finished the 2026 season with a 7.84 ERA, 12 hits allowed and eight strikeouts across his three starts. He did not record a decision during his brief return.

The Diamondbacks finished the regular season 86-76 and missed the postseason after entering the final weekend in the National League Wild Card race. Arizona ultimately finished two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the final playoff spot.
Burnes now heads into the offseason focused on rest after a lengthy rehabilitation process. The right-hander originally underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2025 and later dealt with a teres major strain during his 2026 recovery.
With the season over, Burnes expects his shoulder to recover with rest as he prepares for the next stage of his return.
