The buzz around Cooper Flagg keeps getting louder, and it’s no longer just about potential. The rookie recently proved why he is the talk of the league during the Mavericks’ game against the Lakers. But at 19 years old, is Flagg’s body still growing beyond 6-foot-9?
While they may be out of NBA playoff contention, the Mavericks secured an impressive 134–128 victory over the Lakers. Moreover, Flagg’s 45-point performance helped him surpass LeBron James’ record for the most 40+ point games by a teenager in the NBA.
During the postgame press conference, Flagg was asked what position he might play in Dallas as his body continues to develop. “That’s something I’ve got to talk more about with our strength and medical staff and my people,” the Mavericks forward responded.
Flagg also shared that he is awaiting a clear plan from the team for the upcoming offseason. He said, “Just trying to figure out where I want to get to and what the summer looks like. We’re going to have a plan in place—but I’m excited to get my first offseason and work on my body a lot.”
Having turned 19 in December of last year, the former Duke star currently stands at 6-foot-9 and weighs 220 pounds. With plenty of time still ahead for physical development, Flagg’s growth could be a major advantage for both the Mavericks and head coach Jason Kidd as they look to maximize his potential.
As he continues to break LeBron’s records, his first NBA offseason could spell trouble for the rest of the league, especially as Dallas looks to bounce back stronger after a disappointing season.
