Connor McDavid delivered another elite performance, scoring his third hat trick of the 2025–26 season to power the Edmonton Oilers against the San Jose Sharks. The Oilers captain took control early and never slowed down.
McDavid opened the scoring for himself in the first period at 6:18 with a power-play goal. He finished a smooth backhand effort set up by Evan Bouchard and Vasily Podkolzin, tying the game after Macklin Celebrini's early goal and shifting momentum in the Oilers' favor.
He struck again in the second period, showing his scoring touch with a wrist shot at 5:53. Bouchard added his second assist of the night, while Mattias Ekholm also contributed. The goal extended Edmonton’s lead to 4-2 and tightened their grip on the game.
McDavid completed the hat trick at 14:13 of the second period. He fired another precise wrist shot to make it 5–2, with Jack Roslovic providing the assist. The NHL reacted on social media, celebrating the milestone moment.
Here's one highlight goal from his hat trick, on which the NHL wrote, "MAGNIFICENCE FROM THE WORLD'S BEST!! 🤯 MCDAVID'S FOURTH POINT TONIGHT!!"
After the hat trick, the third period remained quiet, and the Oilers won the game 5-2.
Meanwhile, this marks McDavid’s third hat trick of the season, adding to earlier performances against the Seattle Kraken (Dec. 4 in a 9-4 win) and Nashville Predators (Jan. 6 in a 6-2 win). His career total now stands at 15 hat tricks, further strengthening his case as the league’s top player.
Entering the game, McDavid led the NHL with 128 points, combining scoring and playmaking at an elite level. His ability to dominate games remains unmatched, especially in key moments, and he is now the first player to reach 130 points this season.
So far this season, he has 47 goals and 86 assists for 133 points.

The Oilers earned their 40th win with this game, and continue to rely heavily on their captain as they push through a tight Pacific Division race, especially in Leon Draisaitl's absence. The group, including Evan Bouchard and Roslovic, has also contributed with offensive support.
They now hold a 40-29-10 record and have 90 points, two more points than Vegas, who are second in the Pacific, with one less game played.
