Brittney Griner of the Connecticut Sun is still going strong in her 13th year in the WNBA. After spending her first 11 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, Griner spent the 2025 season with the Atlanta Dream. As a 10-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion, eight-time blocks leader and seven-time All-Defensive Team selection, Griner is considered one of the greatest players in WNBA history.
Now with the Sun for 2026, the two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year is doing all she can to help the struggling 0-5 team. Griner is averaging 15.0 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in three games so far in the WNBA’s 30th anniversary season. The 6-foot-9 center has been consistent in her efforts, shooting above 50.0% from the field in each game so far.

The 35-year-old center missed two games earlier in the season with a left foot injury but was able to return for Monday’s close 83-82 loss against the Portland Fire. Griner scored a team-high 16 points in 27 minutes of action. On Wednesday, Connecticut announced that Griner will miss yet another game.
The Sun went to social media to announce the unfortunate news, posting on X their injury updates for Wednesday night’s matchup against the Seattle Storm. Griner is out for the matchup with a right rib injury.
“UPDATED Game Status Report vs. Seattle Storm,” Connecticut wrote on X. “5.20.26 Brittney Griner - OUT (Right Rib)”
Connecticut is on the road for its matchup against Seattle, with tipoff scheduled for 10 p.m. ET at the Climate Pledge Arena.
