Brittney Griner and the Connecticut Sun suffered their sixth loss in the last seven games on Thursday, falling to 8-24 on the 2026 WNBA season after a 104-69 loss to Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream. Now, the Sun will look to bounce back on Saturday, hosting Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty.
While it hasn't been the season many Connecticut fans were hoping for, Griner has still proven she has something left in the tank at the age of 35. The former Phoenix Mercury center is averaging 13.2 points on 52.7% shooting, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
But Griner has been forced to sit out 14 of the Sun's 32 games this year, and she could be on track to miss the matchup against New York.

During Connecticut's 72-63 loss to Phoenix on July 19, Griner, after playing 31 minutes, was forced to leave the game with a left knee injury. She was forced to miss the next four games as the issue lingered, including against the Indiana Fever, Washington Mystics, Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings - all losses.
But Griner was able to return in the August 7 win over the Mercury, earning 24 minutes of game time. Against the Dream on Thursday, Griner played just 19 minutes, putting up five points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Griner had been listed as questionable ahead of the matchup against Atlanta, but she was able to give it a go. However, her status has not improved before Saturday's game against New York, as the Sun have listed Griner questionable once again.
Connecticut also listed forward Aaliyah Edwards as questionable with a left ankle injury.

Following the Liberty game, the Sun will be back in action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET, finishing out a four-game homestand against the Los Angeles Sparks.
