Kirk Herbstreit is one of the most well-known and respected personalities in the college football world and the sports entertainment business as a whole. He joined ESPN in 1995 after spending four years as a quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes. During his time in college, Herbstreit played in 38 games, throwing for 2,263 yards and five touchdowns.

In August 1996, the Hamilton, Ohio, native joined ESPN's "College GameDay" as an analyst for the country's biggest college football pregame show on Saturday mornings. Since then, Herbstreit has endeared himself to sports fans, becoming a loved personality on television.

Herbstreit serves as the lead analyst on ABC and ESPN's college football games, along with play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler.

Not only does Herbstreit work in college football, but he also works as the lead analyst in Amazon Prime Video's "Thursday Night Football" alongside Al Michaels. Before the start of the 2025 season, Herbstreit also began a podcast on his YouTube channel titled "Nonstop" with fellow former Buckeye and ESPN analyst Joey Galloway.

Outside of football, Herbstreit is married to Alison Herbstreit, a former Ohio State cheerleader. Together, they have four children: Jake, Tye, Zak and Chase.

On Friday, Herbstreit shared on his X account that his youngest son, Chase, a quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, won the co-offensive scout team player of the year award at Michigan.

"Congratulations on a great 1st year Chase!! So proud of your commitment to your team and your passion to develop and get better! Like we say 'just keep stackin days' Keep grindin!" the caption read.

This brought in a host of comments congratulating both father and son on Chase Herbstreit's accomplishment.

"Congrats Chase. Have followed since 10th grade year. Keep grindin and stay focused on your trade. Appreciate you," said one user.

"Congratulations but….like who says? Are you on the Cignetti bandwagon now," commented another.

"You raised him right, well done," chimed in one more.

Chase Herbstreit, a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports, started 33 games in high school, throwing for 3,983 yards and 32 touchdowns, per Michigan's team website. He did not see any action in 2025 with Michigan, his freshman year at the school.

"Way to go Chase!!! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ Keep working young man!!! #ProudDad," the comments continued.

"πŸ’―πŸŽ―," said one more.

While Kirk Herbstreit has made a name for himself in the college football world, there's no doubt that Chase Herbstreit is carrying on the family legacy in a great way with the Wolverines.
