The Washington Commanders are getting a significant boost ahead of their Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in London. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that linebacker Frankie Luvu and tight end Chig Okonkwo are set to return.
Both players missed Washington’s previous two games because of injuries. Their availability gives the Commanders more options on both sides of the ball as they prepare for Sunday’s international matchup.
The returns are particularly important for a team dealing with several injury concerns. Luvu strengthens a linebacker group that recently lost Leo Chenal for the season, while Okonkwo provides another option for an offense still adjusting to life without Jayden Daniels.
Luvu’s return should help Washington restore some depth and experience to its defense. The linebacker has been sidelined with a groin injury, and his presence could be valuable against an Indianapolis offense featuring running back Jonathan Taylor.
Okonkwo also gives the Commanders another receiving option. The tight end missed time with a hamstring injury after appearing in Washington’s season opener, and his return could help Marcus Mariota as he prepares to start another game.
Daniels will remain sidelined against the Colts because of his dislocated left elbow. Mariota is expected to lead the offense again after guiding Washington to a 33-31 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

The Commanders will face the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 4, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The matchup gives Washington an opportunity to build on its recent win while welcoming back two players who could make an immediate difference.
With Luvu and Okonkwo available again, Quinn has more flexibility heading into the London game. Their returns will be especially useful as Washington looks to maintain its momentum despite continuing to manage injuries elsewhere on the roster.
