Marcus Mariota will remain the Washington Commanders’ starting quarterback for their Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the decision Friday, giving the veteran another opportunity to lead the offense.
The announcement comes as Jayden Daniels continues recovering from an elbow injury that has kept him out since Week 2. Although the rookie quarterback has returned to limited practice, Washington is not rushing him back into the lineup.
Mariota stepped in last week and helped the Commanders secure a 33-31 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Now, he will look to build on that performance as Washington attempts to climb back to .500.
Mariota completed 19 of 31 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns against Seattle. He protected the football throughout the game and provided the veteran presence Washington needed to close out a tight contest.
His performance was particularly important after Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow against the Dallas Cowboys. The rookie has been making progress in his recovery, but Quinn’s latest announcement confirms that Mariota will get another start.
The Commanders and Colts both enter Week 4 with 1-2 records. Washington has shown it can produce points, but its defense has struggled, allowing more than 30 points per game through the opening three weeks.

The matchup also presents a different challenge because it will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Washington will need to adjust to the international setting while facing an Indianapolis team looking to improve its own early-season record.
For Mariota, the assignment is straightforward: keep the offense moving and give the Commanders a chance to win another game while Daniels remains sidelined. A strong performance could help Washington maintain its momentum and buy its young quarterback more time to recover.
