The Washington Commanders fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in their Week 1 NFL regular season opener on Sunday evening.
Washington had a chance to tie the game late, following a touchdown pass from star quarterback Jayden Daniels. The Commanders needed a two-point conversion to tie up the game. It did not go well.
The Commanders tried a daring shovel pass play, essentially taking the ball out of Daniels’ hands, and it was stuffed quite easily by Philadelphia’s defense.
NFL fans are calling it one of the “worst” two-point conversion attempts they’ve ever seen during a game.
“Commanders Drew Up The Worst 2-Point Conversion I’ve Ever Seen. Genuinely This Was Never Gonna Work,” SM Highlights wrote.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes called it out on social media, being among those to blast it on social media.
“Commanders 2 point play. Never had a chance vs those Eagles DTs,” she wrote on X.
Mike Greenberg blasted the Commanders, too
“I am looking up adjectives to try to describe how much I hated that #Commanders playcall on the two point conversion,” he wrote on X.
“What are the Commanders doing ??! Let’s run a shovel pass for 2 pt conversion and shovel the ball behind the LOS lol Not to mention wasting 2 timeouts to get the plays in Dan Quinn’s seat is getting hot,” one fan added.
Tom Brady did not like it either.
“In big-time moments, you’ve got to think about players not plays. … I was thinking give DAniels a run-pass option. You’ve got Terry (McLaurin). You’re got Stefon (Diggs). I’m not thinking Bates,” he said postgame on FOX.
The Commanders dropped to a disappointing 0-1 to begin the season, while the Eagles improved to 1-0 with a big win in the NFC East on Sunday afternoon.
