Jonathan Taylor reached 8,000 career rushing yards on Sunday, but the Indianapolis Colts suffered a frustrating 26-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium. The running back delivered 151 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, yet Indianapolis could not protect its 13-0 halftime lead.

Taylor finished with 94 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. He also caught two passes for 57 yards, giving him his highest scrimmage-yard total of the 2026 season.

The milestone offered a personal highlight on a difficult afternoon for Indianapolis. Taylor entered Week 6 with 7,996 career rushing yards and crossed the 8,000-yard mark against the Titans.

Taylor has remained a central part of the Colts’ offense through the first six games of the season. He entered the matchup with 398 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, along with 106 receiving yards. His performance against Tennessee raised his season totals to 492 rushing yards and 163 receiving yards.

The Colts’ running back also scored his seventh rushing touchdown of the season. His production, however, was not enough to prevent Indianapolis from falling to 2-4, leaving the team second in the AFC South behind the 4-2 Jacksonville Jaguars. Tennessee improved to 1-5 with its first victory of the season.

Indianapolis appeared to have control of the game after building its halftime advantage, but turnovers and special-teams mistakes helped Tennessee complete the comeback. Taylor also lost a fumble, one of three turnovers committed by the Colts. The Titans’ defense recorded six sacks, while a blocked Indianapolis punt resulted in a defensive touchdown that helped swing the game.

Taylor’s milestone adds to an already accomplished career. The former second-round pick has earned three Pro Bowl selections and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2021, when he led the NFL with 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

The Colts now need to regroup before their next game against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 25. Taylor’s individual production remains a positive, but Indianapolis will need to limit costly mistakes and finish games more effectively to improve its position in the AFC South.
