'College GameDay' Ripped For Shameless Lane Kiffin Interview

Since ESPN’s “College GameDay” is in Baton Rouge this Saturday to cover the Clemson-LSU game, Lane Kiffin joined the show to discuss his controversial offseason.

Kiffin shocked the college football world last month by landing commitments from tight end Dae’Quan Wright and defensive tackle Zxavian Harris. They spent training camp with the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints, respectively, so fans found it ridiculous that Kiffin pursued NFL rookies.

The SEC implemented a rule that prohibits pros from returning to college football, but Kiffin’s new recruits received an injunction from a judge this week. Although they’re cleared to play, neither Wright nor Harris are going to play Saturday against Clemson.

Unfortunately, the “College GameDay” interview didn’t spend too much time discussing Kiffin’s personnel decisions. Instead, Nick Saban and Pat McAfee spent several minutes hyping up LSU’s new coach.

“Glad we are interviewing and having a good time laughing with Lane Kiffin on gameday like he hasn’t spent the last month trying to destroy the sport,” one fan wrote on X.

“Gameday cast didn’t ask Lane Kiffin a single question about the football game his team was playing today, what are we doing,” a second fan said.

“Oh good, put on College Gameday and its a Lane Kiffin Kiss [expletive] special,” another fan commented.

“I don’t mind that College Gameday is pro Lane Kiffin across the desk, but it is an objectively poor representation of how he’s felt about by college football fans. Gotta be an alienating experience for those viewers when Pat McAfee and Nick Saban shower Lane with adoration,” another fan added.

“Pat McAfee on the ESPN’s College Game Day was shameless on LSU and Lane Kiffin,” a social media user wrote.

Paul Finebaum had a different approach.

While “College GameDay” had a lighthearted interview with Kiffin, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum unleashed a wild rant on “SEC Nation.”

Finebaum believes the SEC should kick Kiffin and LSU out of the conference for trying to add NFL rookies to their 2026 roster.

“I know it’s not going to happen, and it probably shouldn’t happen, but if the presidents of the SEC took a vote today, they very well might vote to kick LSU out of the league,” Finebaum said. “I can tell you, fans out there would not be the least bit upset by it.”

This story involving Kiffin won’t be going away anytime soon, that’s for sure.
