Washington Commanders QB and former LSU star Jayden Daniels has just about everyone shaking their heads at him over some drama developing between him and his alma mater.
Daniels reportedly filed a cease-and-desist against LSU to keep the team from using his name in NIL deals and is allegedly asking for his Heisman Trophy back. According to reports, the dispute stems from Daniels being upset at the team for reissuing the No. 5 jersey that he wore for the team from 2022 to 2023.
During his two years at LSU, Daniels accomplished quite a lot: A Heisman, some records, a trip to the SEC Championship Game and plenty of accolades. But amid this dispute, fans on X have been quick to point out one thing: He wasn't as good as his predecessor, Joe Burrow.
"Didn’t Joe Burrow win a championship? Only QBs get their number retired at LSU, not glorified running backs," one user declared.
"I get why Jayden Daniels mad but he not Joe Burrow when it comes to LSU love," wrote another.
"If you can’t understand why Joe Burrow is hallowed and revered at LSU to levels Jayden Daniels could only dream of, then you’re simply not a ball knower," a third remarked.
"The truth of the matter is… he isn’t Joe Burrow. Burrow was one of the greatest college football QBs to ever live. Was Jayden Daniels good? Yes. Good enough to be whining about a jersey number? Absolutely not."
Daniels vs. LSU
LSU generally doesn't retire numbers. In the history of the school only four have had their numbers retired, and none of those players played in Baton Rouge after 1978. Even Burrow, who many fans now argue is the greatest player in team history, doesn't formally have his number retired.
It really seems like Daniels is arguing with a wall here. He's certainly not endearing himself to the fans right now and LSU has plenty of lawyers who will fight tooth and nail to defend the Tigers' traditions.
