The final day of the 2025-26 college football season is here.
No. 1 Indiana will be taking on No. 10 Miami in the College Football Playoff national title game on Monday evening. The Hoosiers have been the best team in the country all season long, but can they finish the job on Monday night?
Kickoff between the Hoosiers and the Hurricanes is scheduled for 7:50 p.m. E.T. It's not that late, but given that it's a Monday night, it's not ideal. It's also already January 19 - much of the sports world has put the college football season in the rearview mirror already.
"Is it just me or does anyone else feel like college football is already over before the title game? I almost forgot they were playing tomorrow. They need to fix the calendar," longtime ESPN host Stan Verrett wrote.
Other college football personalities are taking issue with the kickoff time and date of the game, as well.
Fans call for change to national title game
"The calendar is terrible they lose so much Momentum. They waste most of December. Not like these kids are going to class anymore. Mostly online or like Beck he’s not even taking classes. First round should be week after champ game. Champ game should always be rose bowl Jan 1st," one wrote.
"College football needs to fix a lot of things right now way out of line with so many things, but they got nobody running it," one fan added.
"Said this yesterday. They need to move the season up a week especially if they’re going to move towards a 16 team playoff," one fan added.
"Yeah March Madness can feel the same way... They wait too long to play the final 4 and championship," one fan added.
Next year won't be any better, either.
Does college football need to consider a major scheduling change?
