Although it sounds too crazy to be true, a college baseball game was delayed Tuesday night because a pelican got stuck in the safety net.
This wild scene occurred during the top of the fourth inning between Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara. The score was tied 1-1 when the pelican crashed right into the safety net behind home plate.
Luckily for the pelican, a few brave fans helped free its beak and talons from the net. The pelican then started walking behind home plate before being escorted off the field.
Most of the players and coaches on Loyola Marymount's team were understandably in awe of this sequence.
Fans react to this unusual delay.
Unsurprisingly, the baseball community had a lot to say about the events that transpired at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
"Bird is such a boss," one fan said. "Just look at him."
"More like Pelican Brief Delay," a second fan wrote on social media.
"I still have a lot of questions," another fan commented.
"Sounds like it's time for a rally pelican," a social media user wrote.
We totally get why people are having a field day with this. After all, we're not sure when we'll get to see another pelican delay at a baseball game.
