Colin Cowherd has had a lot of criticisms for how the WNBA has handled itself now that it's become a lot larger and more popular. Amid the most recent drama, he believes the league has become a full-blown circus.

On Thursday's edition of The Herd, the longtime sports commentator addressed Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham's most recent criticism of the WNBA amid the rallies over her views on transgender athletes. Cowherd said that the WNBA has become the center of too much drama and now feels more like "a reality show" than a proper sports league.

"It does feel like 24/7 drama," Cowherd mused. "It's a reality show more than a league... There's outrage every week in the WNBA. You were begging for attention for 3 decades and you can't handle it."

Politics = Consequences

Sports fans didn't seem all that surprised that the WNBA has turned into a circus. Many have pointed out that when players dip their toes into political discourse, chaos tends to ensue. Others believe that the current situation is just a result of poor decision-making and poor leadership.

"It's so weird. She publicly stakes out a position on a political issue and then is surprised that there's a reaction. You can't ask for attention and then be offended by attention," one user remarked on X.

"Sophie brought it on herself. You have to know speaking out about that issue is going to bring some controversy. But yes I agree it’s drama all the time and has been since the beginning," wrote another.

"The issue is for 2 decades the W was survival mode. Now hyper growth and Cathy (Engelbert, the commissioner) isn't qualified to grow the W. Like many start-ups, the founder CEO exits when it gets into hyper growth mode. As many have noted, time for a change in leadership," a third declared.

The WNBA has a number of problems amid its unprecedented growth. Clearly it wasn't fully prepared for all of the drawbacks that would come with such growth.
