Confidence in the United States is at an all-time high after winning back-to-back games to start their World Cup run. After seeing the vaunted England team held scoreless against Ghana on Tuesday, Colin Cowherd is even more confident.
On Wednesday's edition of The Herd, the FOX Sports host mused that if England could struggle so much against Ghana, it's very possible that the United States men's national team (USMNT) could seriously compete with them if they faced off.
"England... a scoreless draw against Ghana? You know what I thought watching this? We can play with England," Cowherd remarked.
Cowherd argued that out of all the teams in the World Cup, the only two he doesn't see the USMNT beating are France and Argentina - the last two winners of the World Cup. He believes that they're in a tier of their own.
But he said that the USMNT is in the second tier with England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands and Portugal. He seemed confident that the USMNT - who lost to Germany and Netherlands in their last two World Cup appearances - could match up way better with them now than in the past.

Where Colin was right?
Soccer fans wasted no time swarming the comments on X to completely dismiss his argument.
"Colin you are (expletive) insane. Ghana is a defensive minded team. Their goal was to get out of that game with a tie. USA is not defensive key, they will make offensive mistakes that a English squad would exploit," one user wrote.
"No they can't. USA won't defend like Ghana did and England would walk through them, would be a different game entirely," wrote another.
"Where Colin Was Wrong. The US has a fine squad but thinking we can play with England is a tough call. I sure hope though that this is a Where Colin Was Right!!" a third said.
"It’s like Kentucky Derby week… All the talking head casuals that spend 45 weeks talking NFL, 4 weeks talking NBA, MLB for 2 weeks for the post season and a couple days for Golf all of a sudden are pros in Soccer. Just stop bud, you’re embarrassing yourself."

Clearly the diehards aren't as confident in the USMNT as Cowherd is. But unless the United States makes a deep run (and takes down some of the teams in that second tier along the way), there really won't be much of a path for them to take on England and test the theory anyway.
