Thursday night will see the first-ever NFL game in Australia as the Los Angeles Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers. But as the game approaches, Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd hasn’t liked what he’s seen from the 49ers in terms of their preparations.
On Tuesday’s edition of The Herd, Cowherd admonished the 49ers for doing too much planning and preparation for being in Australia rather than just treating it like another game. He pointed out that the Rams are planning to show up, play and leave, while the 49ers are spending time exploring the country.
“The Rams are treating it like another game. The Niners are treating it like a wedding – 6 months of prep… It is a business trip. Go the last second you can. Land, play, leave,” Cowherd remarked.
Cowherd didn’t really do much to demonstrate that the way the 49ers are approaching the game is going to hurt the team as they take on the Rams though. So it really feels like he’s just nitpicking for something to complain about.
Nevertheless, Cowherd concluded that the Rams’ approach to the game will “pay off” on Thursday.
“I like the Rams and I think their actions will pay off,” he said at the end of the video.

49ers vs. Rams
The 49ers and Rams both had to endure playoff losses to their NFC West rival, the Seattle Seahawks en route to Seattle winning the Super Bowl. Both teams worked hard over the summer to ensure that they’ll be in the optimal position to not only challenge the Seahawks for the division, but challenge for the Super Bowl.
By most accounts, the Rams have done a better job, especially on defense, with their trade for Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and convincing Aaron Donald to come out of retirement.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are relatively healthy despite the slew of offseason injuries they endured but still have plenty of question marks.
