The New York Yankees just finished a series win against the Texas Rangers on Thursday, totaling 16 wins in their last 19 games, placing them at the top of the American League East, a game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays. In the middle of it all, a door opened.
Left fielder Jasson Dominguez exited Thursday's 9-2 win after crashing into the left field wall at Yankee Stadium while chasing a fly ball. With Dominguez headed to the injured list, the Yankees announced a roster move, one that caught the attention of veteran outfielder Cody Bellinger.
New York is promoting their No. 6 prospect, Spencer Jones, according to multiple reports. The Yankees have long viewed Jones as a top-tier power-hitting outfielder to play alongside the AL home run record-holder Aaron Judge.

Jones spent the early part of 2026 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre working on contact and limiting strikeouts. In 33 games with the RailRiders, Jones is batting .258 with a .366 on-base percentage, .592 slugging percentage, 11 home runs and 41 RBI.
Cody Bellinger, who has been one of the most consistent hitters in baseball this season, reaching base safely in 30 of his 36 games this season, didn’t need long to form an opinion.
“That’s a large man that hits the ball very far,” Bellinger said, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.
The Yankees have long believed Jones is built for this moment. Now, with a playoff-caliber roster rolling behind him, he gets his first chance to prove it.
New York will be looking to build on the positive momentum as they open a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
