Coco Gauff reminded the world Wednesday that she’s one of the most resilient athletes in all of sports.
Despite losing the first set to Mirra Andreeva and facing match point in the second set, Gauff mounted an incredible comeback to force a deciding set at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Once the third set started, it was pretty evident that Gauff was going to book a spot in the semifinals.
After taking care of business in the deciding set, Gauff let out a roar and pounded her chest several times in front of the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd.
Gauff reminded everyone that you truly can’t measure heart, and fortunately for her, she’s got the fighting spirit of a champion.

During her post-match interview, Gauff said she was inspired by Frances Tiafoe’s comeback Tuesday against Alex Michelsen. She certainly channeled that energy in the second and third sets.
“I was thinking about Frances Tiafoe and how he came back yesterday,” Gauff said. “We all want to do well in front of this crowd. I was trying to leave the court with no regrets.”
The road ahead won’t get easier.
Next up for Gauff is a showdown with the new world No. 1 Elena Rybakina. When they met at the National Bank Open last month, Rybakina won 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
The crowd on Thursday night will certainly be on Gauff’s side, so maybe that’ll give her the edge in that match.
If Gauff defeats Rybakina, she’ll face either Aryna Sabalenka or Jessica Pegula in the final on Saturday.
