Claressa Shields is heading back to familiar territory. The GWOAT announced this week that she will return to the middleweight division on August 15, when she faces unified WBC and WBA middleweight champion Kaye Scott at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The bout marks another opportunity for Shields to add to her already historic resume while becoming the first female boxer to headline the venue.

Shields was last in the ring in February when she renewed her rivalry with Franchón Crews-Dezurn in a heavyweight rematch. The undefeated champion swept the judges' scorecards in a unanimous decision victory, leaving little doubt in the rematch against Franchón Crews-Dezurn.
Now, after four consecutive fights at heavyweight against elite competition, Shields is making a major move back down to 160 pounds. Rather than taking an easier return fight, the two-division undisputed champion is once again going title hunting, targeting the unified middleweight championships in another attempt to cement her legacy.
But Who Is Kaye Scott?
While Claressa Shields is one of the biggest names in boxing, many fans may be unfamiliar with her next opponent.
Scott, 42, is from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and currently holds the unified WBC and WBA middleweight titles. The orthodox boxer owns a 5-1-1 professional record, though that number doesn't tell the full story.

Unlike many champions who built lengthy professional resumes, Scott spent years competing at the highest levels of amateur boxing before turning pro. She brings more than 70 recorded amateur bouts and over a decade of international experience into the biggest fight of her professional career.
Her amateur resume includes appearances at the Commonwealth Games, IBA Women's World Championships, and numerous international tournaments while representing Australia. Along the way, Scott shared the ring with several of the sport's most decorated amateurs and future professional stars.
Among the notable names she has faced are:
- Olympic gold medalist Lauren Price
- Olympic bronze medalist and world champion Lovlina Borgohain
- Olympic gold medalist and multiple-time world champion Busenaz Sürmeneli
- Commonwealth Games silver medalist Rosie Eccles
- Current professional world champion Sandy Ryan
- World champion Anastasia Demurchyan
That level of opposition gives Scott considerably more high-level experience than her professional record suggests.
On paper, Shields enters as the overwhelming favorite thanks to her undefeated 18-0 record and status as a multi-division undisputed champion. However, Scott's years competing against world-class amateur talent could make her a more dangerous opponent than casual fans might expect.
For Shields, the mission remains the same. She isn't returning to middleweight for a tune-up—she's returning to chase more history. Defeating Scott would keep Shields on course for some of the division's biggest names, with Lauren Price and Mikaela Mayer among the potential future opponents.
