It's safe to say that the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup didn't go as planned for Christian Pulisic.
The U.S. men's soccer star was expected to lead his team on a deep run. However, things ended in the Round of 16, as the U.S. was blown out by Belgium, 4-1. Pulisic, who had been dealing with a leg injury, had to exit the game in the second half. Following the knockout blow, Pulisic said that at least he'll have time to "rest" now.
"Now I have time to rest," he told reporters.
Pulisic faced major criticism for his remarks, as even U.S. soccer legends Carli Lloyd and Landon Donovan called him out on social media.
"You rest when your playing career is over. Period," Lloyd said.
Pulisic, who has been viewed by some as the best player in U.S. men's soccer history, has spent most of his career in Europe.
The Pennsylvania native has played for Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and AC Milan, the latter of which he's been with since 2023.
Pulisic has starred on a major level, playing well in the likes of the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup. But could he be returning to the United States following a disappointing World Cup?
MLS has interest in Pulisic
The Athletic is reporting that NYCFC has interest in bringing Pulisic back. His club, AC Milan, reportedly made it clear that he is not for sale.
However, perhaps things could change following the World Cup.
"NYCFC is interested in a potential move for Christian Pulisic, but his club AC Milan has made it clear the U.S. national team star is not for sale, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic," the report states.
"NYCFC is not the only MLS team that would chase Pulisic if Milan softened their stance, sources add. Gazzetta Dello Sport first reported NYCFC’s interest."
Pulisic is under contract through next summer.
Some fans believe that a move to the U.S. could be what's best for Pulisic at this stage of his career.
It'll be an interesting storyline to follow.
