Chloe Kim’s attempt at a historic three-peat in halfpipe snowboarding at the 2026 Winter Olympics may have fallen short, but she still emerged victorious by winning a silver medal and is now earning recognition off the snow as well.
Kim rose to prominence at the 2018 Winter Olympics when she became the youngest woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in halfpipe at age 17. She defied the odds again in the 2022 Winter Olympics, becoming the first woman in history to win back-to-back Olympic halfpipe titles.
Entering the Milan Games as a favorite despite battling a shoulder injury, her quest for a three-peat, which would have been a first for either a male or female snowboarder, fell short when she placed second behind South Korean star Choi Gaon. Nevertheless, Kim still made history by becoming the first female snowboarder to medal in three consecutive Olympic halfpipe competitions.

Now, Kim’s success is being recognized off the snow as well. Laureus World Sports Awards has nominated her for Action Sportsperson of the Year. She is joined by Brazilian surfer Yago Dora, Spanish ultra-runner Kilian Jornet, Brazilian skateboarder Rayssa Leal, Australian surfer Molly Picklum, and British cyclist Tom Pidcock.
Kim has already won the honor twice, in 2019 and 2020. Given her historic achievement in Milan, she is once again considered one of the favorites. Winners are selected by a vote of the Laureus World Sports Academy and will be announced at a gala in Madrid on April 20.
Kim has cemented her legacy as one of the greatest snowboarders in history, but the 25-year-old is uncertain whether she will extend her career through the 2030 Winter Olympics.
"I'm not thinking about anything," she told CBS.
Kim has previously revealed that she has chosen a date for her retirement from snowboarding, though she has not disclosed it publicly. Off the slopes, she has also spoken about wanting to start a family and is currently datingNFL star Myles Garrett.
